About Jaggayyapeta

Jaggayyapeta is a town in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna district. The town is located on the Paleru River which is a tributary of Krishna River. The town in the early AD is a said have been governed by a ruler, Sri Rajah Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu. It is also said that he had founded two towns in the name of his parents. The first being Jaggayyapeta after his father, Jaggayya, and the second town named Achampeta after his mother, Atchamma. The government records also state that the town was founded Sri Rajah Nayudu. The town was initially called Betavolu, which was later renamed Jaggayyapeta. The region was then infested with many robbers and was called Dongala Betavolu (robbers’ betavolu). It was Sri Rajah Nayudu who developed the village.

There are various archeological excavation sites which have found Buddhist Stupa from 200BC within which they found the innocent looking mound of Dhanam Bodu. The excavation sites also found various sculptures and scriptures of Neolithic, Megalithic and Medieval periods.

Jaggayyapeta Municipality

The Jaggayyapeta Municipality was founded in 1987 and was declared a municipality in 1988. The first chairman for the municipality was Sreeram Badri Narayanarao. The Jaggayyapeta municipality is a grade-2 municipality with 27 election wards and 15 revenue blocks covering an area of 23.50km2. The municipality is the 3rd largest ULB in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Jaggayyapeta municipality is located at 110 km away from the state capital.

Economy of Jaggayyapeta

The main occupation of the people of Jaggayyapeta is that of working in the mango orchards. The mango orchards are quite famous for their variety of mangoes, most of them being Banganniphali and Totapuri variety. These varieties are even famous worldwide. Jaggayyapeta also seems to make a living by tourism. The town is famous for its Stupa and the mound within attracting various tourists from round the world.

How to reach Jaggayyapeta

By Road
The town is located on the NH-9 which is connecting Pune and Machillipatnam. The government provides services of APSTRC bus service, which makes it even easier to connect the town to various major Indian cities.

By Train
The availability of trains to Jaggayyapeta is less. The nearest station to the town is that of Bona Kalu. This station is 23 km away from Jaggayyapeta town. Another nearby station is that of Madhira. His station is 28km away. There are frequent trains available to both stations.

By Air
Since there is no airport for the town of Jaggayyapeta it advised to take a flight to Vijaywada Airport. This is one of the major towns therefore; the availability of flights to this town is not a problem. The Vijaywada airport is 75km away.
